Kevin Breit is a Canadian guitarist and mandolin player, celebrated for his eclectic blend of jazz, blues, country, and rock music. In addition to his work as a solo artist and leader of various groups, Breit is a highly sought-after session musician, having collaborated with renowned artists such as Cassandra Wilson, Norah Jones, Rosanne Cash, Hugh Laurie, k.d. lang, and The Wailin' Jennys, among others. He won a Juno Award in 2006 with his jazz ensemble, Sister Euclid, and again in 2012 for his work with The Stretch Orchestra. Breit has also teamed up with percussionist Cyro Baptista, releasing two albums under the group name Supergenerous, and has produced multiple albums with guitarist Harry Manx.

Kevin Breit has played on 10 Grammy winning albums, including those by Norah Jones and Cassandra Wilson. Many of Kevin Breit's instruments are custom made by luthier Joseph Yanuziello. The Stretch Orchestra, a group Kevin Breit formed with Matt Brubeck and Jesse Steward, is so named because all 3 musicians are quite tall.

Early Life

Kevin Breit grew up in a large, musical family in a very small town in Northern Ontario, Canada. His father played guitar and his mother played piano. One of 7 children, Breit started playing the guitar at a young age and and soon joined his older brothers, Garth and Gary, to form The Breit Brothers. The band gained some recognition, even receiving airtime on Canada's MuchMusic, the equivalent of MTV. At age 17 Breit moved to Toronto and began working as a studio musician.
