Norah Jones is a singer, songwriter, and pianist whose music effortlessly blends pop, jazz, folk, country, and blues. She burst onto the scene in 2002, winning five Grammys for her debut album, Come Away with Me. After growing up in Texas, Jones moved to New York City, where she was quickly signed by Blue Note Records. Building on the success of her first album, she has released nine studio albums that explore various genres, earning additional awards along the way. Jones has also been involved in several side projects, including the country groups "The Little Willies" and "Puss N Boots," as well as the indie-rock band "El Madmo." Known for her wide-ranging collaborations, she has worked with artists such as Willie Nelson, Foo Fighters, Outkast, and Herbie Hancock. In 2022, she launched her podcast, Norah Jones Plays Along, where she interviews guests and often performs impromptu songs with them.
Norah Jones' debut album, "Come Away With Me" is the top selling Blue Note album of all time. Norah Jones was listed among the most influential people of 2004 by the Time Magazine. Norah Jones starred in Wong Kar-wai's 2007 film, "My Blueberry Nights."
Geethali Norah Jones Shankar was born in 1979 in New York City to musician Ravi Shankar and concert producer Sue Jones. After her parents divorced in 1986, Jones and her mother moved to Texas where she later enrolled in the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas. While in school she sang in the choir, and played piano and saxophone and won the Down Beat Magazine student awards for Best Jazz Vocalist and Best Original Composition. After graduation she studied jazz piano at University of North Texas and also encountered Jesse Harris who she would later collaborate with on her first album. Jones moved to New York City in 1999 where she began singing in lounges and clubs and soon started her own group with Jesse Harris, Lee Alexander, and Dan Rieser.
