Eric Harland is a grammy-nominated jazz drummer. Although he has recorded several albums as leader, he is best known for performing with artists such as Joshua Redman, Dave Holland, Terrence Blanchard, McCoy Tyner and many others. He has been featured on over 80 recordings and was identified by DownBeat Magazine as one of the world's most recognized drummers.

Betty Carter was one of Harland's supporters and mentors, even allowing him to live in her basement. Eric Harland has performed in over 18 movie scores. Eric Harland studied Theology at Houston Baptist University and is an ordained minister.

Early Life

Eric Harland was born and raised in Houston, Texas and started studying jazz at age 14. He attended Houston's High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and received a special Citation for Outstanding Musicianship in 1994 from the International Association for Jazz Education. After high school he received a full scholarship to the Manhattan School of Music.
